Rules for basketball:

1. Proper Equipment : Wear the appropriate basketball shoes with good ankle support and comfortable attire. Ensure the basketball is the correct size and inflated properly.

2. Team Composition: Each team consists of five players on the court at a time, including positions like guards, forwards, and centers. Substitutions are allowed during stoppages.

3. Dribbling and Passing: Players must dribble the ball (bounce it on the floor) while moving. Passing to teammates and maintaining possession is key to creating scoring opportunities.

4. Scoring: A field goal is worth 2 points, or 3 points if taken behind the three-point line. Free throws are worth 1 point and are awarded after certain fouls.

5. Fouls and Violations: Common fouls include personal fouls (illegal physical contact) and technical fouls (unsportsmanlike behavior). Violations such as traveling (moving without dribbling) and double dribbling (starting and stopping a dribble) result in turnovers.

6. Defense: Players must prevent the opposing team from scoring by blocking shots, stealing the ball, or forcing bad passes, while respecting the "no-contact" rule to avoid fouls.
